CSX boss wants railroad to keep improving service as profit falls 24%

OMAHA, Neb. (AP) — CSX reported a 24% drop in the railroad’s third-quarter profit Thursday as it hauled 2% less freight, but the CEO said customers are noticing that its trains are running more smoothly.The Jacksonville, Florida-based railroad said it earned $846 million, or 42 cents per share, in the quarter. That’s down from $1.1 billion, or 52 cents per share, a year ago. The results fell just short of the 43 cents per share that Wall Street was expecting, according to a survey of analysts done by FactSet Research.The railroad’s results show a mix of demand across various industries with a strong 19% jump in auto shipments and 9% growth in coal carloads nearly offsetting weak demand for consumer products and agricultural shipments. ARLINGTON, Texas (AP) — The roof was open for Game 4 of the AL Championship Series on Thursday night, the first home game for the Texas Rangers in nearly five months without it closed. That retractable roof at Globe Life Field was last opened for a game May 21. The Rangers started 11 games with the roof open during the regular season and were 7-4. That included opening day against the Philadelphia Phillies on March 30, the only time in the stadium’s four seasons that the roof was open before being closed during the middle of a game because of a threat of rain.The game time temperature was 78 degrees with clear skies. DENVER (KDVR) — Scammers continue to use the latest technology to hack bank accounts and retirement savings.The Federal Trade Commission reports consumers lost nearly $6 billion to fraud in 2021, up 70% over the previous year.The FBI is currently investigating the so-called "phantom hacker" scam, which tricks victims into providing access to their computers so malicious software can be used to hack financial accounts.FBI Supervisory Special Agent Brian Blauser told FOX31 that scammers pose as bank employees who warn victims that someone else is hacking their account and offer to help them. Initial contact is made via email or phone.“They instantly kind of try to instill some fear in you as the victim and say, 'Oh my gosh, we see a lot of fraudulent activity in your bank account. Two men were taken into custody after a police pursuit ended in Northwest Miami-Dade.
