‘Dreamer’ speaks out after federal judge rules DACA unlawful for 2nd time A program that protects undocumented immigrants who were brought to the U.S. as children has once again been deemed unlawful. On Wednesday, a federal judge in Texas, Andrew Hanen, deemed that the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals, or DACA, is illegal. It is the second time this judge has made this ruling. 7News spoke with a DACA recipient, or “Dreamer,” on Thursday who said she will not stop fighting for her future and those just like her.“We, my mother and I, basically fled our county because of gang members,” Illse Cruz said. “They actually killed my dad in front of me.”Cruz, 28, is a “Dreamer” who was born in Honduras. She made the move to the U.S. with her mother at just 6 years old.“I was undocumented until the age of 18. That’s when President Obama gave us Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals,” she said.Once again, the program that many like Cruz count on is up in the air.“DACA has allowed me to have a dr...

Peter Gabriel keeps it fresh at TD Garden show

Peter Gabriel keeps it fresh at TD Garden show Peter Gabriel sat at his keyboard singing a ballad. A straight piano ballad — tender, sentimental, sweet — just hushed keys, strings, bass and Gabriel’s voice. Then, after four or five quiet minutes, the song, “Playing for Time,” bloomed into a crescendo of immense beauty: strings soaring, drums crashing. It all felt so new because, well, it was so new.For 30 years, Peter Gabriel didn’t look back. Then he looked back a lot. From his early days in Genesis to 2002’s “Up,” he charged forward. He dressed like a flower. He rebelled against Top 40, then went Top 40, then rejected Top 40 again. Along the way, he added a tinker’s cart of instruments to rock ‘n’ roll: sabar drums, ney flute, Chapman Stick. Then Gabriel seemed to discover nostalgia, and did a covers record, a symphonic record of old songs, a tour celebrating 1986 blockbuster “So,” a “hits” trek with Sting. But in January, Gabriel started releasing a new song every full moon. Eventually, they will add up to new album “i/o.” On Th...

Imagine making shadowy data brokers erase your personal info. Californians may soon live the dream SAN FRANCISCO (AP) — You may not know it, but thousands of often shadowy companies routinely traffic in personal data you probably never agreed to share — everything from your real-time location information to private financial details. Even if you could identify these data brokers, there isn’t much you can do about their activities, including in California, which has some of the strongest digital privacy laws in the U.S.That’s on the verge of changing. Both houses of the California state Legislature have passed the Delete Act, which would establish a “one stop shop” where individuals could order hundreds of data brokers registered in the state to delete their personal data — and to cease acquiring and selling it in the future — with a single request. The Delete Act isn’t law yet. Democratic Gov. Gavin Newsom still has to decide whether to sign the measure, which potentially could extend well beyond state lines given California’s history of setting similar tre...
