Electric vehicles linked to better respiratory health, according to study

AUSTIN (KXAN) -- In groundbreaking research, scientists are directly linking the adoption of electric vehicles (EVs) to decreases in respiratory-related emergency room visits.Though presumed health benefits of zero-emissions vehicles when compared to traditional internal combustion engines are nothing new, a team of researchers from the University of Southern California Keck School of Medicine is now showing the link with real-world data.Researchers analyzed total electric vehicle registration, air quality data, and asthma-related emergency room visits across California between 2013 and 2019. The authors used data from before the year 2020 to avoid COVID-related influences on air quality, even though electric vehicle adoption was lower at that time. Hoedown to raise money for Wisconsin dog rescue

The Hoedown, a yearly gala hosted by the nonprofit Coco’s Heart Dog Rescue, seeks to raise funds for its continued operation.The gala will feature live performances from the Tim Sigler band, catering by Big Guys BBQ, a silent auction, raffles and a photo booth. The gala, according to Coco’s Heart, is meant to have “a laid back atmosphere.”The shelter has up to 600 dogs in rescue at a given time and accrues more than $1 million in care expenses each year, according to Coco’s Heart.The Hoedown will be held at the rescue’s location at 449 County Rd VV, Somerset, Wis. After making what would become his last start of the regular season, a five-inning, shutout effort against the Cincinnati Reds, Kenta Maeda expressed his willingness to pitch in any role the Twins might ask of him in the postseason.During the regular season, he said, it’s his preference to be a starter. LOUIS - There were two police officers scheduled to work an entire St. Louis police district, but they called out sick, causing a ripple-effect for the entire city.The St. Louis Police Officers' Association (SLPOA) said only two officers were assigned to work the second shift (3 p.m. to 11 p.m.) in District 3 on Wednesday."Both of them became ill, so it left them with no one left in the district," SLPOA Business Manager Joe Steiger said. BERKELEY, Mo. - A new video shared with FOX 2 shows thieves stealing a gun and other items out of a car in Berkeley as the owner pumped gas.The video, provided by a Mobil gas station on North Hanley Road, shows a driver in a black Subaru pulling up next a vehicle early Thursday morning. A nearby vehicle was left unattended at the pump as the owner went inside. Police say a suspect quickly jumps out of the SUV, open the victim's door and sneaks inside.
