SUPERIOR, Colo. (KDVR) -- Moving forward after the devastating Marshall Fire, state and local leaders gathered in Superior to talk about the response and what’s next for those impacted. Dozens of community members showed up, including Eric Hiivala, who lost his home in the fire. "That was a house that my wife and I lived in together. Harvard astronomer says extra-terrestrial probes may have already been sent to Earth, gone undetected

A new paper co-authored by a Harvard University professor and a top official at the Pentagon suggests we may not have to look far for extraterrestrial life. Harvard’s Head of Astronomy Avi Loeb partnered with the Pentagon to do research on UFOs. The theory has drawn skepticism. Speaking this week, though, Loeb said it’s possible we could have contact with some form of extraterrestrial life within our lifetime. “We just need to look up and collect that data and figure out what is going on in our cosmic neighborhood,” Loeb said. The new paper by Loeb and his Pentagon counterpart suggests aliens may have already sent probes to earth that haven’t been spotted. Loeb spoke with 7NEWS about the paper, saying he believes that, if there are visitors from beyond, they’re something we can detect. “Even if there are extraterrestrial civilizations, they share the reality that we have,” he said. “Therefore, whatever they sent in our direction should obey the laws of physi...

ANCHORAGE, Alaska (AP) — The Alaska board of education has unanimously approved a resolution that urges the state to limit the participation of transgender girls in girls school sports. The resolution passed Thursday urges the Alaska Department of Education and Early Development to create two sports divisions, one for athletes whose sex assigned at birth is female and the other for students of all genders, the Anchorage Daily News reported. The resolution was added last-minute to the board’s agenda at the end of a three-day meeting in Juneau. It had unanimous support from the eight members, with the student adviser abstaining.Billy Strickland, the director of the Alaska School Activities Association, said the resolution closely matches what members of Republican Gov. Regulators: Nuclear plant leak didn’t require public notice

Minnesota regulators knew four months ago that radioactive waste had leaked from a nuclear power plant in Monticello — but they didn’t announce anything about the leak until this week.The delay in notifying the public about the November leak raised questions about public safety and transparency, but industry experts said Friday there was never a public health threat. They said Xcel Energy voluntarily notified state agencies and reported the leak of tritium to the Nuclear Regulatory Commission soon after it was confirmed and that the leak of 400,000 gallons (1.5 million liters) of radioactive water never reached a threshold that would have required public notification. “This is something that we struggle with because there is such concern with anything that is nuclear,” said Victoria Mitlyng, a spokesperson with the Nuclear Regulatory Commission. “The concern is very, very understandable. CHICAGO — A Chicago Police Department officer was injured in an incident Friday evening near Museum Campus, according to the fire department.The incident was reported around 8:30 p.m. near DuSable Lake Shore Drive and East Roosevelt Road. 24-year-old man’s body recovered from Chicago River on North Side The Civilian Office of Police Accountability said they are investigating an officer-involved shooting in the area.The Chicago Fire Department said the officer was not shot and suffered a non-life-threatening injury.The Chicago Office of Emergency Management and Communications said DuSable Lake Shore Drive is closed from East Balbo Drive to 18th Street in both directions.Anyone with information is asked to contact COPA.
