Unseasonably high temperatures to blanket Southern California this week  After a cool, clear weekend, an offshore flow is set to bring higher than average temperatures to SoCal this week, weather officials said. According to the National Weather Service, the high temperatures will be “the most talked about weather phenomena for the next two days.” “The higher-than-normal heights and offshore flow will combine to bring four to eight degrees of warming [on Monday] and three to six degrees on Tuesday,” NWS said. “On Tuesday, most max temperatures across the coasts and valleys will be ten to fifteen degrees above normal.”  2 dead after ammunition-fueled fire rips through Sylmar home The high pressure system will function as a buffer to a Pacific storm churning off the coast of Western Canada, KTLA 5 meteorologist Henry DiCarlo said. A secondary low pressure system hovering over Baja California will “cloud us up” towards midweek and bring the chance of light rain, Henry added, but the high-pressure system will minimize the chance of precipitation...

Drink it in,” Henry said. Henry still had a weather forecast to deliver, which included a big warmup later in the week, but the sunrise was the big story of the moment. “I feel like my work here is done,” Henry said.

Construction to begin on $16 million project to restore historic Pigeon Point Lighthouse Pigeon Point Lighthouse, a towering 19th century white brick structure that is one of the most venerable historic landmarks on Northern California’s coastline, has been closed to the public for more than 20 years because of safety concerns. Now it is finally about to receive a major renovation. The 115-foot structure, which looms over the scenic coastline between Half Moon Bay and Santa Cruz, is the tallest operating lighthouse on the West Coast.State parks officials have signed a $16 million contract with Sustainable Group — a Moraga contractor run by a former Coast Guard commander — to replace failing bricks and masonry, conduct interior repairs, and to rebuild the black, cast-iron bracings around the top of the lighthouse that are so corroded an engineering report in 2009 described the tower’s upper levels as “in critical condition” and at risk of “catastrophic failure.”A drone view of the Pigeon Point Lighthouse at Pigeon Point Light Station State Hi...

Warriors coach Steve Kerr is staying with his guys, come hell or high water

Warriors coach Steve Kerr is staying with his guys, come hell or high water When someone says they’re “standing on business,” it means that their walk is aligned with their talk and they are getting things done. It also means that they’re sticking to their beliefs and principles and will never waver or fold on them. When it comes to his belief that the dynastic core of Stephen Curry, Klay Thompson, and Draymond Green is still good enough to lead his Golden State Warriors to a fifth championship in seven years, coach Steve Kerr is standing on business. It doesn’t matter that the team is 9-11 after blowing leads of 24 and 22 points in two losses last week. It doesn’t matter that other teams are younger and more athletic and that the league has caught up with the Warriors’ style of play. The rippling noise about benching veterans, or trading them, to make room for younger players is irrelevant. Kerr is rolling with his core, no matter what.“We won a championship a year and a half ago. The guys who are going to drive us to win a title or not, we know who they are...

California investors shed rental houses. It’s a national trend, too

California investors shed rental houses. It’s a national trend, too Have hordes of investors – from mom and pops to Wall Street giants – gobbled up single-family residences across the state to make them rentals?Well, my trusty spreadsheet looked at state-by-state Census Bureau stats detailing who lives in single-family residences, detached and attached, and whether the occupants were owners or renters. Figures from 2022 and 2017 were compared. These figures showed the fears of potential homeowners being squeezed out by investors are perhaps overblown. Renter-occupied single-family housing is largely on the decline. Let me explain.Who rents?Yes, California has the most single-family rentals in the nation at 2.1 million units, or 15% of the US total. Remember, the vast majority of this housing is owned by small investors.Next in scope for this renter’s option is Texas with 1.3 million units, then Florida’s 897,078, Pennsylvania’s 602,495 and Ohio’s 584,589.But between 2017 and 2022, the number of California’s single-family rentals dropped by 81,548 uni...

California plastic surgeon ‘Dr. Laguna’ faces dozens of claims, from botched procedures to medical negligence An Orange County plastic surgeon who dubbed himself “Dr. Laguna” is under fire from dozens of former patients and the Orange County District Attorney’s Office amid claims of horribly botched procedures, medical negligence and a brief suspension of his medical license following the death of a patient. The chief of the plastic surgery department at a south Orange County hospital calls Dr. Arian Mowlavi “a danger to the community.”At least three dozen former patients have accused Mowlavi of a host of allegations — including the use of unlicensed technicians to help perform surgeries, the degrading treatment of disrobed women and the hard-selling of unnecessary procedures — in civil lawsuits filed in Orange County Superior Court.A lawsuit filed by prosecutors at the OC DA’s office earlier this year echoed many of the allegations, while also accusing Mowlavi of unlawful business practices.“This is life-altering,” one of the former patients told NBC News about the impact of an allegedly bo...
