Austin doctor raising awareness for multiple sclerosis on 150-mile bike ride

AUSTIN (KXAN) -- An Austin doctor is riding her bike on a 150-mile trek through Texas to raise awareness for multiple sclerosis, a disease that affects thousands of Texans, including the doctor herself. Multiple sclerosis, a disease of the central nervous system, impacts nearly 30,000 people in the state and one million people nationwide, according to the National Multiple Sclerosis Society. A surprise diagnosisDr. Lisa Doggett lived a healthy lifestyle, provided patient care as a doctor, and was the mother of two young children when she was surprised by an MS diagnosis in 2009. "I didn't know if I'd be able to work, if I'd be able to raise my kids. If I'd be able to continue exercising. I'm a runner, a cyclist," Dr. Doggett explained. Duo cited after dead pets found in Vermont home

POWNAL, Vt. (NEWS10) — Two people are due in court on Monday, March 27, after police say they found several dead pets in a Pownal home. According to a press release from Vermont State Police, Juan M. Garcia, 22, of Pownal, and Cassaundra M. Halsey, 32, of Hoosic Falls, New York, were responsible for six guinea pigs and two dogs at the home. When troopers checked on the animals on February 17, they found four of the guinea pigs dead in their cages, the release stated. There were two other guinea pigs at the home, living in their own feces and urine, along with two dogs. A member of animal control rescued the four living animals. Troopers then tracked down Garcia and Halsey and ordered them to appear in Vermont Superior Court Bennington Criminal Division. Each will face eight counts of animal cruelty on March 27.

Jury finds accused ringleader of brazen 2016 California jailbreak guilty

An Orange County Superior Court jury has determined that the accused mastermind of a daring 2016 jailbreak in Santa Ana that grabbed national headlines was guilty of the escape and stealing a van but not of kidnapping a taxi driver while on the lam.Hossein Nayeri, 44, already had publicly admitted to taking part in the brazen break-out from the Central Jail Complex and even recorded the escape on a smuggled-in cellphone.
