2 more Oakland restaurants announce closures

(KRON) -- Two more Oakland restaurants are closing in the coming weeks. Palmetto in Downtown Oakland and Caffe 817 in Old Oakland both announced their closures on Instagram.Caffe 817Caffe 817, located at 817 Washington St., is shutting down on Nov. 11. The self-described European-inspired cafe was open in the mornings and early afternoons for 30 years. Its struggles began before the COVID-19 pandemic. The cafe's Instagram post said the local health department forced it to change its menu format and business model because it could not install a ventilation hood. Caffe 817 fought through COVID shutdowns and "an increase of crime and safety issues" before closing, it said. (AP) — The Charlotte Mecklenburg County Sheriff’s Office says it has an unserved warrant for Hornets forward Miles Bridges for a violation of a domestic violence protective order, along with an unserved criminal summons for a domestic protective order violation, misdemeanor child abuse and injury to personal property.The sheriff’s office told The Associated Press the warrant was issued in January, but has not yet been served. After stabbing, residents question safety at shelter for homeless families

DENVER (KDVR) -- Three people are recovering after being stabbed at a Denver hotel used as a shelter for families who are homeless.The stabbing happened at the old Comfort Inn near Interstate 70 and Quebec Street.Police were called to the shelter Tuesday at about 6:30 p.m. Three people, including two teenagers, were taken to the hospital.Officers say preliminary information indicates this is an isolated incident that stemmed from an argument between two families. Man arrested in connection with deadly Chelsea shooting

Cleanup underway after bulkhead collapses at New Bedford Harbor

Cleanup efforts got underway Wednesday after four workers, large construction machinery and pounds of debris came crashing into New Bedford Harbor when a bulkhead collapsed. While no one was injured, the cleanup was far from over Wednesday night as submerged piles of wooden beams, twisted metal and construction equipment littered the harbor.SKY7-HD was over the scene, showing the aftermath of the collapse that happened around 2 p.m. Later speaking with reporters, New Bedford’s fire chief said the roughly 8,000 square-foot pier had been under construction when it collapsed. Two of the workers were taken to a nearby hospital after this incident.
