Police find vehicle in deadly San Jose crash, ask driver to turn themselves in

SAN JOSE, Calif. (KRON) -- The vehicle involved a deadly hit-and-run involving a mother and her young daughter in San Jose has been found, but the suspected driver has not, the San Jose Police Department confirmed to KRON4. Suspect identified after hours-long standoff in Gilroy Police say the vehicle was found just outside of the city's limits on Monday. The car is currently being examined by detectives and processed for evidence, police said. "With the vehicle in custody, it is only a matter of time until the suspect is identified. We are advising that the suspect turn themselves in now." -- San Jose Police Department The crash happened on Sunday evening just before 7 p.m. when a mother was walking with her daughter and dog. Police said a 2000 Honda sedan possibly driven by a female was traveling west on Blossom Hill Road when it hit the woman, her daughter and their dog, who were crossing the street. Fairfield girl dies days after being hit by suspected drunken driver

(KTXL) — An 11-year-old girl Fairfield girl died days after being hit by a suspected drunken driver, according to the Solano County Coroner. Fairfield Police said the girl was on East Tabor Avenue, near Grange Middle School, around 8 a.m. Thursday when she was struck by an SUV.  Teen arrested after allegedly leading Sacramento County deputies on pursuit in stolen car First responders took the 11-year-old girl to the hospital where she remained in critical condition. The coroner’s office confirmed her death on Monday. She was identified as Terra Star Jackson.The driver of the SUV was arrested as police suspected she was under the influence. According to police, the 32-year-old driver also had two children in the car. 

Nonprofit helps recover body of missing 7-year-old at Moss Landing

MOSS LANDING, Calif. (KRON) -- A days long search for a missing 7-year-old boy ended on Saturday when recovery divers assisting the Monterey County Sheriff's Office found his body in Moss Landing. The body of the boy's mother was recovered in the water two days earlier. Suspect identified after hours-long standoff in Gilroy California Recovery Divers is a non-profit team that assists with drownings. The group has extensive sonar technologies and search techniques for underwater. MADRID (AP) — A hotel employee in Madrid has been arrested for racially insulting members of Morocco’s national team, authorities told the Spanish news agency EFE on Monday.The employee allegedly published the insults on social media. He was denounced by other hotel employees who saw the posts. Some of the posts carried photos of the Moroccan players along with the insults.Morocco will face Peru in a friendly at Metropolitano Stadium in the Spanish capital on Tuesday.Morocco was the biggest surprise of the World Cup in Qatar last year, eliminating Spain in the round of 16 and Portugal in the quarterfinals before losing to France in the semifinals. (AP) — A New Mexico judge said Santa Fe’s district attorney shouldn’t serve as co-counsel in the manslaughter case against actor Alec Baldwin and a weapons supervisor in the fatal shooting of a cinematographer during a 2021 movie rehearsal. Judge Mary Marlowe Sommer on Monday said the district attorney should either lead the case on her own or turn it over entirely to another prosecutor.Baldwin and movie armorer Hannah Gutierrez-Reed have pleaded not guilty to charges of involuntary manslaughter in the shooting death of cinematographer Halyna Hutchins. New source of water found in moon samples from China mission

CAPE CANAVERAL, Fla. (AP) — Scientists have discovered a new and renewable source of water on the moon for future explorers in lunar samples from a Chinese mission. Water was embedded in tiny glass beads in the lunar dirt where meteorite impacts occur. These shiny, multicolored glass beads were in samples returned from the moon by China in 2020. The beads range in size from the width of one hair to several hairs; the water content was just a miniscule fraction of that, said Hejiu Hui of Nanjing University, who took part in the study. Since there are billions if not trillions of these impact beads, that could amount to substantial amounts of water, but mining it would be tough, according to the team.“Yes, it will require lots and lots of glass beads,” Hui said in an email. “On the other hand, there are lots and lots of beads on the moon.” These beads could continually yield water thanks to the constant bombardment by hydrogen in the solar wind.
