Scotia Fire Department receives grant for new safety equipment

SCOTIA, N.Y. (NEWS10) -- The Scotia Fire Department was awarded a grant of over $67K to purchase new safety equipment. Congressman Paul Tonko made the announcement on Thursday. Funds will be used to replace nine outdated self-containing breathing apparatus packs. “This was a much-needed grant to bring our older packs up to date with current NFPA standards and keep our crews safe with up-to-date equipment,” said David Wood, Chief of the Scotia Fire Department. “Our Capital Region firefighters work tirelessly each and every day to keep our families and our communities safe,” Congressman Tonko said. “In order to honor their contributions and ensure their critical work continues, we must make certain that all those on the front lines have the tools and the training they need to do their jobs effectively and safely."

Missouri man charged in Granite City with child sex crimes, grooming

GRANITE CITY, Ill. – A central Missouri man was arrested this week in connection with a child sex crime investigation in Granite City, Illinois.According to Major Nick Novacich, assistant chief of police for the Granite City Police Department, a missing juvenile report was filed with the department on Aug. 7. The next day, police received information leading to the missing juvenile’s location.Investigators contacted police in California, Missouri, who then found the juvenile at a residence and took a suspect, identified as Naresh Bass-Ocasio, into custody. The juvenile was returned to their family. Calling out the Court: Missouri family battles jury summons for son who can’t serve Granite City detectives drove to the Moniteau County Sheriff’s Department and interviewed Bass-Ocasio. Authorities in the Inland Empire arrested an unlikely suspect following a high-speed motorcycle pursuit Wednesday night.Around 7:50 p.m., a San Bernardino County Sheriff's Deputy tried to stop a motorcyclist for a traffic violation near the intersection of Ranchero Road and Seventh Avenue in Hesperia.With lights and sirens activated, the deputy approached the motorcyclist, but he did not comply. Instead, the motorcyclist took off down the road, reaching speeds of 65 mph as he drove into oncoming traffic and blasted through stop signs during a 7.6-mile pursuit in a residential area, police said.The motorcyclist eventually came to a stop at a residence, where he ditched the bike and ran inside.Authorities responded to the home and were able to bring the speeding rider into custody, only to discover he was a 13-year-old boy.The adolescent daredevil was booked into juvenile hall and is expected to face charges for evading police and disregarding public safety.The investigation is ongoin...
