Vikings star receiver Justin Jefferson is always open. Even when he’s not. After being gifted a free play last week, the Vikings made the Carolina Panthers pay with a deep shot downfield. The execution was perfect as quarterback Kirk Cousins delivered a pinpoint pass and star receiver Justin Jefferson rose up to make a spectacular catch in the end zone.Asked about that sequence, Vikings coach Kevin O’Connell heaped praise on Cousins for throwing the ball to Jefferson in that moment. It was single coverage on the outside, and thus, imperative that Cousin gave Jefferson a chance to do something special.“We got a 1-on-1 there,” O’Connell said. “I thought Kirk did a great job of orchestrating that, holding the safety , then really throwing it to a great spot versus a good matchup.”The fact that Jefferson outmuscled cornerback D’Shawn Jamison for the ball was further confirmation of his greatness.Never mind that it was a 50-50 ball when Cousins let it rip. There’s no such thing as a 50-50 ball when it comes to Jeff...

Coming off a Sweet 16 appearance last season, the Buffs return four starters and eight rotational players and could be a preseason top-25 team. There are goals of getting back to the Sweet 16, and beyond. Add in the fact that the season begins on Nov. 6 in Las Vegas against the defending national champion LSU Tigers and th...

Kaiser health care strike: Driven and likely to boost a labor-action surge A massive strike by Kaiser Permanente workers, including 23,000 in the Bay Area, is part of a surge in union activity this year from Detroit to Hollywood, and will likely bring greater bargaining power to workers in health care and other industries, experts say.Kaiser’s strike followed the Sept. 30 expiration of the union contract for tens of thousands of workers. Other high-profile strikes, including a successful labor action by Hollywood writers and an ongoing strike among auto workers — and even a threatened strike by UPS employees that was a key tactic in negotiating a favorable contract — likely gave confidence to Kaiser workers, said John Logan, chair of the Labor and Employment Studies department at San Francisco State University.“When they see things like that, they think, ‘Yes, now is the time to do this. We can do it, too,'” Logan said. The job action over wages, understaffing and other issues that took 75,000 Kaiser workers across the U....
