Hayward: Two homicides and 6 other people shot within 4 hours

Two separate homicides and another shooting that left six people injured were reported Tuesday night in Hayward, according to a police spokesperson. The first homicide, at 7:40 p.m., was in the 1100 block of Tennyson Road, just east of Interstate 880. The second homicide, believed to be unrelated, was at 11:30 p.m.; the police did not reveal its location.At 10:14 p.m., six people were shot on Ranker Place, a residential cul-de-sac near Tyrrell Elementary School. U.S. citizenship test: Proposed changes include describe-the-picture section

ST. PAUL, Minn. (AP) — The U.S. citizenship test is being updated, and some immigrants and advocates worry the changes will hurt test-takers with lower levels of English proficiency.The naturalization test is one of the final steps toward citizenship — a monthslong process that requires legal permanent residency for years before applying.Changes made under former President Donald Trump’s administration in 2020 made the test longer and more difficult to pass. When Joe Biden took office, he signed an executive order aimed at eliminating barriers to citizenship. In that spirit, the citizenship test was changed back to its previous version, instituted in 2008.In December, U.S. authorities said the test was due for an update after 15 years. The new version is expected late next year.U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services proposes that the new test adds a speaking section to assess English skills. Homebuilder shifts gears on plans for homes in north San Jose

SAN JOSE — A developer has shifted gears in a big way on plans for a San Jose housing development that would replace an old office and research building, city documents show.SummerHill Homes is eyeing the development of a large complex of townhomes at 210 Baypointe Parkway in north San Jose on the site of a tech building that was constructed nearly four decades ago, according to a revised preliminary filing by the real estate firm.The townhomes project now replaces a previous proposal for the Baypointe Parkway property. SummerHill’s first version envisioned a 329-unit apartment complex.The new project would produce 104 townhomes on the site.The revamped proposal is in the very early stages and is being floated at City Hall as a way to gauge the reaction of San Jose political leaders and planners.The project would be built on a 4.3-acre site currently occupied by an office building constructed in 1985 that totals 68,000 square feet, according to the commercial real estate...

Six people shot in Hayward on 4th of July

(KRON) -- Multiple people were shot in Hayward on Tuesday night, the Hayward Police Department confirmed to KRON4.At 10:14 p.m., six people were shot in the 400 block of Ranker Place, according to authorities. Police could not confirm the severity of each of the victim's injuries. Police have one suspect, a man, in custody.Dozens of people were outside at the time of the shooting during what appeared to be a Fourth of July celebration. No fatalities have been reported in connection to that shooting.However, two people were killed in separate homicides that occurred Tuesday, according to a Hayward police spokesperson. Two teens rescued from China Beach, one injured

(KRON) -- The San Francisco Fire Department rescued two teens Tuesday night along the coastline at China Beach. Range Rover driver arrested for DUI, hit-and-run

(KRON) -- A person was arrested for driving under the influence following a hit-and-run collision Monday night in Petaluma.Around 7:41 p.m., police received a report of a black Range Rover that collided into a parked car in the 100 block of Payran Street. The driver of the Range Rover drove off shortly after the collision, Petaluma police said.  Multiple people shot in Hayward on 4th of July Officers later located an unoccupied Range Rover with damage to its front passenger side in the 700 block of North Kentucky Street. The registered owner of the car was found to have an address in the surrounding area, police said.Petaluma PD made contact with the owner of the Ranger Rover, Scott Corda, at his residence and determined he was responsible for the collision after objective signs of him being under the influence of alcohol. Wheat for Jul. was up 3.50 cents at $6.4575 a bushel; Jul. corn fell 9.50 cents at $5.5325 a bushel; Sep. oats rose 14.25 cents at $4.05 a bushel; while Jul. soybeans was off 4 cents at $15.75 a bushel.Beef was lower and pork was higher on the Chicago Mercantile Exchange.Aug. live cattle was off .27 cent at $1.7625 a pound; Aug. feeder cattle fell .85 cent at $2.4767 a pound; Jul. lean hogs rose 2.60 cents at $.9952 a pound.Source
