BSO searching for man accused of stealing car with 3-year-old inside; child found safe in vehicle

Authorities are searching for a man who, they said, stole a car with a 3-year-old boy inside from the parking lot of a restaurant in Oakland Park.According to the Broward Sheriff’s Office, Phillip Pepe Jr. broke into the vehicle that was parked outside of the IHOP along West Oakland Park Boulevard, Saturday morning.Investigators said the child’s mother was inside the restaurant at the time of the incident.Detectives said Pepe, 33, was wearing a white T-shirt and blue shorts. He has a tattoo on his right arm and an abrasion under his left eye.Authorities said the boy was found safe inside the car minutes after he was taken, but as of Sunday afternoon, Pepe remains at large.If you have any information that could help deputies find the suspect, call Broward County Crime Stoppers at 954-493-TIPS. When the postseason rolls around for the Weston boys’ tennis team the Wildcats have already gone up against a number of the top-ranked teams in the area. Playing in the brutally tough Dual County League also gets George Conlin’s squad battle ready for the postseason.So by the time the Wildcats got on the MIT courts Sunday they were ready for another state crown.The No. 1 Wildcats won their second consecutive Div. 4 title and sixth state title in a row with a convincing 5-0 decision over No. 3 Lynnfield (19-2). Pittsburgh Pirates bus driver busted for DUI while driving to Milwaukee

A bus driver transporting the Pittsburgh Pirates from Chicago to Milwaukee was arrested for driving under the influence during the trip.Ronald Funderburke, 61, was driving the bus Thursday night on Interstate 94 between the two midwest cities, authorities said.A police escort accompanied the team on the short drive. Illinois state troopers on the scene said Funderburke was driving erratically and apparently trying to leave the convoy, the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel reported.Officers initially called for an ambulance, as they believed the bus driver was having a medical emergency, according to Reuters. However, upon closer inspection they believed the man was impaired.Funderburke, a resident of Shelby, N.C., is not a Pirates employee. He was contracted to drive the team to Milwaukee following a three-game series against the Chicago Cubs.
